Engineers in the Research & Development Department work at a specialized, Navy managed, Joint-Service DOD facility with the unique mission to exploit technology and intelligence to develop tools and equipment to render ordnance harmless. They provide technical expertise in: engineering design, robotics, explosive effects, magnetics, acoustics, countermeasures, signal processing, remote control, blast protection, and other fields. They conduct basic research, test and evaluation efforts, design prototype systems, and document results. They have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects and gain experience in various engineering sub-fields and specialties. The nature of this work is such that they are exposed to both office and field conditions, and work with a variety of military and civilian personnel from various government agencies. They are required to travel on occasion (both domestic and foreign). U.S. citizenship is required.
